A West Clare GP has described the Taoiseach’s comments on ED referrals as a “sign of desperation”.
Leo Varadkar is reported to have suggested in a private meeting earlier this week that GPs shouldn’t be referring as many patients to the ED.
It comes as HSE figures show up to 55% of those who attend the ED has been sent there by their GP, however the rate for Shannon Doc is much lower at 8%.
