Clare garda districts to be merged next month

Clare Garda Districts are to be reduced to just two from the month of April, while night time closures may soon take effect in both Killaloe and Ennistymon Stations.

The Chief Superintendent has confirmed that Ennis Garda Station will assume responsibility for the Killaloe District from April 22nd, while Ennistymon will subsumed into the Kilrush District at the same time.

John Kerin also told last evening’s Clare Joint Policing Committee meeting he’s recommending closure of the current 24 hour Killaloe and Ennistymon stations between the hours of 9pm and 7am to ensure officers are out on patrol overnight instead of being tied to administrative duties in stations.

While members accepted his views, Killaloe Councillor Michael Begley said people may see the move as another cut to local policing
