Clare FG TD Says Offer Of Full Government Partnership With FF Remains On The Table

A Clare Fine Gael TD says his party's offer of a full partnership Government with Fianna Fáil remains on the table.

That's despite the breakdown in talks between both parties last night, and ahead of another vote on Taoiseach in the Dáil this afternoon.

Today marks the third time that TDs will attempt to elect a Taoiseach, and again it's expected that there will be no resolution.

However, there is a keen focus on proceedings following last night's breakdown in talks between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil.

Controversy surrounds an alleged ultimatum made by Micheál Martin to Independents.

Reports today say he told them that they had to vote for him today, as he won't put himself forward again, though Deputies Micahel Healy Rae and Mattie McGrath say that statement did NOT come from Micheál Martin himself.

The votes of Independents, including Clare's Michael Harty, will be closely watched this afternoon.

Speaking on Clare FM's Morning Focus, he indicated that he will support neither Michael Martin OR Enda Kenny once more.

Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey believes that a full partnership Government with Fianna Fáil is the best option and says that offer remains on the table.

But Deputy Carey has joined his party colleagues in ruling out a Fianna Fáil-led minority government.

A Fianna Fail TD claims Enda Kenny is absolutely desperate to be re-elected Taoiseach.
