Clare TD Says Shannon Heritage Transfer Should Have Happened Earlier

A Clare Independent TD says a lack of engagement from government on the transfer of the Clare assets of Shannon Heritage to the local authority delayed the process which has taken almost three years to resolve.

It comes following cabinet approval of €6m in funding to facilitate the transfer of the management of Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Craggaunown, Knappogue and the Cliffs of Moher Gift Shop from the Shannon Airport Group to Clare County Council.

The multi-annual support package will be presented to Councillors for consideration in the coming days, with discussions continuing between the Council, Shannon Airport Group and department officials regarding regulatory issues.

Scariff Deputy Michael McNamara, who first proposed the move in 2020, says sufficient funding must continue to be provided to ensure that the local authority is not adversely affected across other areas of responsibility.
