Heated Exchanges As Ennis Councillors Debate 2040 Plans

The Mayor of Ennis has dismissed reports that the cost of building a temporary car park in Francis Street in the town will reach €1m.

There were heated exchanges at this month’s meeting of the Ennis Municipal District as councillors debated aspects of the Ennis 2040 project.

It includes a plan to build a multistory mixed use building on the Abbey Street public car park and a temporary car park in Francis Street, which would involve demolishing six houses.

A motion from Councillors Tom O’Callaghan, Johnny Flynn and Pat Daly, asking that Ennis 2040 “rethink its plans” to build a mixed use structure in Abbey Street car park was defeated by four votes to three.

However, Ennis Fianna Fáil Councillor Clare Colleran Molloy denied that the Francis Street car park replacement option could cost €1m.
