Clare County Council recorded a deficit in it’s finances over the past two years.
Last year’s deficit amounted to over 280,000 euro.
Clare County Council is currently preparing its budget for 2023, which will be voted upon by councillors at a special meeting on November 25th.
In the five years from 2017 to 2021, the Council’s expenditure increased by 20%.
The adopted budget in 2017, was just over 107 million euro, while last year’s budget was for over 131 million.
However, as the local authority’s costs have increased, their finances at each year’s end have depleted.
Clare County Council recorded a surplus of nearly 300,000 euro in 2017, but a deficit of over 280,000 euro last year.
The Council’s result over the five years compared to the adopted budgets was €147,272 positive in total.
