A meeting of Clare County Council has heard that a lack of recognition is resulting in those with FASD being misdiagnosed.
Clare’s councillors have been briefed on the impact of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, which is a series of conditions arising from a developing baby being exposed to alcohol, ahead of this week’s meeting of the local authority.
At present, it’s estimated that 9,467 people in Clare are living undiagnosed with FASD.
CEO of FASD Ireland, Tristan Casson-Rennie, says each individual needs to be more thoroughly examined on a case by case basis.
