Clare Councillors Reduce Property Tax by 15%

Clare County Council has voted to reduce the property tax charge here by the maximum amount of 15%.

A special meeting on the issue was held at Áras Chontae an Chláir this morning which saw members of the technical group and Fianna Fáil join forces with the exception of Cllrs Christy Curtin and Ian Lynch.

The 17 Councillors, who formed a pact on the issue, voted for a full reduction of 15 per cent on the property tax.

While Fine Gael voted against the  reduction saying it would mean on average a reduction of 26 to 66 cent a week in people's bills in 2015. 

The vote was carried and the reduction in the charge will come into force in 2015.
