Clare Childcare Provider Insists “Overall Review” Of Childcare Industry Of Paramount Importance

A Clare childcare provider is standing firm in his view that nothing short of an “overall review” of the childcare industry will make it a viable pursuit into the future.

It comes as the Government has revealed almost €7.5 million in subsidies were paid to Clare childcare providers in 2023 under the National Childcare Scheme as a means of easing the burden on parents and guardians.

3,807 children in this county benefitted from the scheme last year and the Department of Children, Disability, Equality, Integration and Youth has committed to increasing the minimum hourly subsidy from €1.40 to €2.14 in September.

Despite this, Noel Mulderrig, who’ll be closing the doors of his long-running creche Kidz Haven in Shannon in June, insists the sector can’t survive without the issue of staffing being meaningfully addressed.
