Clare businesses hope for savings from Council overhaul

Businesses in Ennis say they hope plans to reform local government will lead to savings for local companies.

The Minister’s plans have been criticised by local representatives, many of whom face an uncertain future under the proposal to abolish Clare’s town councils in Ennis, Kilrush, Kilkee and Shannon.

The membership of Clare County Council will also be reduced, perhaps by as much as eight.

Minister Phil Hogan says the plan will save the exchequer 420 million euro, and CEO of Ennis Chamber of Commerce Rita McInerney is hopeful these savings can be passed on to it’s members
