The Environmental Protection Agency has found Clare to be below average when it comes to water quality.
Out of 52 rivers and lakes surveyed in the county, 40% were rated good or high, compared to 52 to 54% nationally.

The EPA’s latest report also shows improvement at 10 water bodies in Clare, although five are continuing to decline.
Senior Scientific Officer in the EPA’s Water Management Programme, Cormac McConigley, says while environmental practices need to improve, there’s no major cause for concern.
