Clare Academic Says Russian Poland Incursion Will Not Change Ireland’s Approach to NATO Membership

A Clare academic has said that Ireland is unlikely to join NATO despite growing global instability.

The United Nations security council is to host an emergency meeting following what Poland’s deputy prime minister has described as an “unprecedented Russian drone attack” on the Eastern European nation.

A total of 19 violations of Polish airspace were recorded and many of the drones were shot down by NATO jets.

Newmarket-on-Fergus native and Professor of Politics at Dublin City University Donnacha Ó Beacháin says while Ireland isn’t technically a neutral country, there is no rush to join the intergovernmental military alliance.
