It’s claimed the current hospitality VAT rate is eroding the margins of Clare businesses in areas hosting a high proportion of Ukrainian refugees.
The Regional Independents Group has raised a motion in the Dáil calling for the rate to be returned to 9%.

The rate for restaurants, cafés and pubs as well as various entertainment services such as cinemas was reduced from 13.5% in November 2022 but returned to its original level in August of last year.
Speaking in the Dáil, Scariff Independent Deputy Michael McNamara, says all local businesses are “taking a huge hit”.
