Claims Invasive Species Hampered Clare’s Major Infrastructure Projects As Council Spends Almost €650,000 On Issue

It’s claimed Clare’s large scale housing and infrastructure schemes have suffered setbacks in recent years due to the volume of invasive plant species in the county.

A new report from The Journal Investigates shows that between 2020 and 2024, almost €650,000 was spent by Clare County Council in an attempt to tackle the spread of invasive plant species.

Nature Editor Maria Delaney says both the Killaloe Bypass and Kilkee Flood Relief Schemes have been particularly impacted by the plant in recent years.
