An MEP for this region insists it would be “farcical”, if rich countries outside of the European Union were benefitting more from vaccines produced within the EU.
A two-day digital European Council summit gets underway today, which sees the Taoiseach and other EU leaders discussing whether to expand restrictions on sending vaccines abroad.

At least 34 million vaccines have been exported out of the European Union to rich countries such as the UK.
Ireland South MEP Sean Kelly says a hard-line approach might be required and particularly in the case of companies like AstraZeneca, which he believes are manipualting the situation.
