Catholic Church describe abortion bill as morally wrong

The Catholic Church says the draft abortion legislation represents a dramatic and morally unacceptable change to Irish law.

The Catholic Bishops of Ireland Conference says if approved – it will make the direct and intentional killing of unborn children lawful in Ireland.

It says the proposals are unnecessary to ensure that women receive the life-saving treatment they need during pregnancy.

The Tánaiste  Eamon Gilmore says the Church is entitled to its opinion – but he says legislators have an obligation and a duty:
