Carers In Clare In State Of Being ‘Working Poor’ Due To Means Tested Allowance

Family Carers Ireland say that carers in Clare are now in a state of being the ‘working poor’ due to the financial strain of means testing their allowance.

In their pre-budget submission for 2023, the charity are calling on the government to abolish the means test to access the carer’s allowance.

It comes after the threshold to apply for the social welfare payment was extended for the first time in 14 years this month.
