Car sales in Clare dropped by 17% in the first three months of the year.
The latest figures from the Society of Motor Industry shows 1,353 new cars were registered in the county between January and March, down from 1,634 in the same period last year.
Sales of electric vehicles have quadrupled though, from 5 in the first quarter of 2018 to 23 so far this year.
