The government’s being urged to ensure that jobs at Clare’s ESB plants are protected when it pushes ahead with plans to sell part of the firm.

It comes as the coalition is due to announce further details of a new unit which will be part of the National Treasury Management Agency to manage the sale of assets such as the ESB and the investment of the proceeds.
Two of the ESB’s largest plants are here in the county, at Ardnacrusha and Moneypoint, and there are fears that any privatisation process could lead to job losses in the county.
