Calls For Reliable Home Supports Amid Clare Nursing Home Bed Decline

The government is being urged to provide more reliable home help supports for older people in Clare.

A new HIQA report has found that this county has lost 66 nursing home beds in the period between 2019 and 2022, while last year alone saw a decrease of 25.

The HSE provides a Home Support Service which aims to enable older people to remain at home for as long as possible but HSE CEO Bernard Gloster has acknowledged that this scheme is extremely oversubscribed.
