Calls are being made for those responsible for illegal dumping at an East Clare recycling facility to be named and shamed.
It comes amid growing frustration over the “blight” that’s being visited upon the Tulla Bring Bank, where people have been regularly flouting the rules by disposing of bags containing food and other prohibited items on the grounds of the facility.
Clare County Council operates a number of recycling centres across the county where people can drop off various household items to be recycled free of charge.
The Tulla Bring Bank only caters for items such as cans, glass bottles or clothing, but there has been an ongoing issue with people leaving general waste in the vicinity, leading to a build-up of rubbish.
This has led to growing concern among the local community, who have voiced concerns over food waste in particular attracting vermin.
Weekly and sometimes twice-weekly patrols are carried out by the local authority’s Litter Patrol Warden, who has been tasked with removing the items.
Tulla Tidy Towns representative, Tim Humphies believes this doesn’t go far enough though.
One local representative insists the issue has become problematic and should not be tolerated.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Hayes is calling for CCTV legislation to be fastracked, so those responsible can be named and shamed.
