Calls For Stiffer Penalties For Clare’s Illegal Dumpers

It’s been suggested that illegal dumping is on the rise in Clare because “the consequences of prosecution are minimal”.

It comes as new data from Clare County Council shows waste and litter complaints in this county in the first three months of the year were up 28% on the same period in 2024.

In March alone, 113 such complaints were made while just eight fines were issued.

Shannon Tidy Towns Chairperson Derek Clune has been telling Clare FM’s Seán Lyons he believes people on which fines are levied aren’t bothering to pay them.
