Calls for referendum on state assets sale

Clare Councillors have called for a referendum to decide whether state assets should be sold.

As part of commitments to raise finances under the bailout programme the government is still pursuing plans to sell off state bodies like parts of the ESB, Bord Gais and it’s stake in Aer Lingus.

But Fianna Fail members of Clare County Council – like Kilrush Councillor PJ Kelly,  have called for a halt to those plans until the Irish people decide.
