Calls for full investigation after bathing ban

There are calls for a full investigation into a swimming ban imposed on three of Clare’s main beaches during the hight of the summer season.

On Friday, Clare County Council and the Health Service Executive banned entry to the water at Lahinch, Kilkee and Spanish Point after traces of E.coli were discovered during routine sampling.

However it was lifted on Saturday after new tests showed  levels had dropped significantly.

The blue flag status of Lahinch and Kilkee was temporarily revoked until bacterial levels returned to normal
