There are calls in Clare for issues preventing women from undertaking apprenticeships to be addressed.

It comes after figures from a Freedom of Information request revealed just five percent of those to begin apprenticeships with the Limerick and Clare Education & Training Board in the last five years have been women.

While there is evidence of an increasing number of women taking up trades in the likes of financial services, hairdressing and hospitality, areas such as construction, electrics and the motor trade continue to be male-dominated.
