Call For Farming To Be Treated Equally With Tourism Sector To Boost Rural Clare

A prominent Clare farming representative is calling for farming to be treated with the same due diligence as the tourism sector, to give rural Clare a boost.

It follows CSO figures which have revealed a significant divide between urban and rural areas in terms of the median household incomes.

Those figures led to calls from Kilkee Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy for the role of tourism to be re-addressed, as he feels the income stream from the sector doesn’t necessarily stay in the county.

But Quilty farmer Joseph Woulfe, who is a former Clare Beef Plan chair and general election candidate, wants to see farming put on a more level playing field, both to boost farmers’ incomes and the rural economy.
