Sixmilebridge visionary Dr Brendan O’Regan has been commemorated with a bronze bust on what would have been his 100th birthday.
Dr O’Regan was the brains behind the airport, the Shannon Free Zone and Duty Free among other initiatives.
Brendan’s daughters Carmel and Geraldine fondly remembered their father – to many, he was a visionary and a businessman but to them he was simply ‘Dad’.
Shannon Airport’s Managing Director Andrew Murphy described today’s event as a landmark for the Shannon region, while Liam Skelly, who worked with Dr O’Regan for decades, remembered him as a man who always wanted input from his staff.
Today’s unveiling coincided with the centenary of Dr O’Regan’s birth – he passed away in 2008 at the age of 90 but his legacy can still be seen today.
