Broad Welcome As IBAL Survey Shows Ennis Is Clean To European Norms

There's been a broad welcome to reports that Ennis has retained its status in the latest IBAL litter league survey.

The report, commissioned by An Taisce, shows the county town is Clean To European Norms, ranking Ennis in 24th position out of 40 towns and cities nationwide.

Ennis has faired very well in the Irish business Against Litter survey with eight out of ten sites surveyed getting the top litter grade this year.

Residential areas The Hawthorns and Summerhill, as well as St Flannan's College and Market Square have been given top marks.

But there was also one moderately littered area and one litter blackspot.

One area which scored very poorly was the R469 approach road to Quin – there was a problem either side of the bridge and at the adjacent 'Doora' Waste/recycle facility, which the report says has an 'air of abandonment'.

Mayor of Ennis, Fianna Fail Councillor Pat Daly is welcoming the result but says he finds news of Ennis' blackspot surprising.
