Clare County Council is warning motorists to drive with extreme care following a substantial oil spill between Ennis and North Clare.
Emergency services have alerted to the slick in the past hour and crews from Clare County Fire Service have been dispatched to carry out a clean-up operation.
The oil spill covers a 9 kilometre stretch between Lidl in Ennis, along the old Gort Road (R458), as far as Crusheen.

The local authority is warning of dangerous driving conditions along the stretch on both lanes.
It’s understood it could be late this evening before the issue is fully resolved.
