Body Recovered During Searches For Missing Ennis Student

Gardaí have confirmed that a body has been recovered from the sea, off the Galway coast this afternoon.

The discovery was made shortly before half past twelve this afternoon during searches for missing Ennis student Michael Bugler.

Galway RNLI lifeboat launched around 12.30 this afternoon in response to a request for assistance from Gardaí.

A short time later the body of a young man was recovered from the water around twenty metres from the coast, near Ardfry.

The casualty was taken onboard by RNLI crew and pronounced dead at Galway lifeboat station a short time later. 

The body has since been transferred to University Hospital Galway but no formal identification has yet been made.

Searches have been ongoing for Ennis student Michael Bugler who has been missing since the 18th of December.

Gardaí have confirmed that searches in the area have now been stood down.
