Bodies of father and young daughter recovered from sea in Cork

Gardaí  are investigating after the discovery of the bodies of a man and his young daughter in Cork.

The alarm was raised shortly before midnight after officers were called to a farm in the Ballydehob area and a search of the surrounding area ensued while Valentia Coastguard carried out a search of the coastline.

Shortly before 2 am the body of a 3 year old girl was located in the water- a short time later the remains of a 50 year old man were discovered on a nearby island.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene and post-mortems are due to be carried out later today.
