Dr Willie Walsh, the Bishop Emeritus of Killaloe, has criticised a senior Vatican figure who hit out at the YES vote in Ireland's marriage equality referendum.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican's Secretary of State, says he's "deeply saddened" that Ireland extended marriage to same sex couples, and called it a "defeat for humanity."
However, Bishop Willie has disagreed with this assessment and told Clare FM's Morning Focus that he doesn't think Pope Francis would agree with this assessment either.
