The Health Minister has poured cold water on calls for the 14-day quarantine rule to be relaxed, despite being told that relaxing the rule is vital for aviation and for Shannon Airport.

Minister Simon Harris sounded a note of caution when pressed on the issue by Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey in the Dáil yesterday.

Currently, passengers arriving in Ireland are required to tell authorities where they will be quarantining for two weeks, a rule which Shannon Group Chairman Rose Hynes has described as “greatest impediment to the resumption of air travel” here.

However, Minister Harris said the matter won’t be reviewed for at least another two weeks, suggesting that it will be dealt with by the next government.
