In the year to September, the greatest increase in this county’s portfolio came in the way of two-bed homes which have gone up by 15.3% to €1,030 per month.

Additionally, three-bed dwellings here now command an average asking price of €1,212 per month, an increase of 13.8%.

Tenants in four-bed homes meanwhile are now forking out an average of €1,350 for their accommodation needs, with the bill rising to over 1,500 for those in a five-bedroom house.

Essentially the cost of renting any home in Clare is now 13.9% more than this time last year, while the average price is a new record high of €1,329.

However, the soaring trend was reflected nationally and Clare remains the joint-second cheapest place to rent in the province on par with Kerry and just behind Tipperary where the average cost is €1,280 per month.

Between July and September, the number of properties available for rental use on the market peaked at 250, in stark contrast to the 800 homes available at this juncture of 2019.

The analysis also showed that an individual hoping to secure a one-bedroom apartment would be €364 per month better off purchasing the equivalent home via mortgage repayments than renting.
