Almost 300 jobs lost in Wicklow

Merck Sharp and Dohme is to close its plant in Co Wicklow with the loss of 280 jobs.

Staff at the company were told of the decision this morning, following a review of MSD’s manufacturing capabilities worldwide.

Merck has been a major employer in Wicklow for the last 50 years.  The pharmaceutical company employs more than 2,000 people in Ireland at sites in Carlow, Cork, Dublin and Tipperary. They are not affected by today’s announcement.
