Air Accident Investigation Unit Launch Investigation Following Emergency Landing At Shannon Airport

The Department of Transport’s Air Accident Investigation Unit has launched an investigation following an emergency landing at Shannon Airport this morning.

United Airlines flight UA-52 was travelling from Washington in the US to Zurich, Switzerland this morning with 126 passengers and crew on board.

At around 5am, crew declared an emergency, reporting an issue with the aircraft’s left engine, and requested to divert.

Emergency services were mobilised and the flight landed safely at the Midwest Airport shortly after 6am.

It was the second time in less than a fortnight that a United Airlines flight travelling from the U.S. to Europe was forced to make an emergency diversion to Shannon.
