Aer Lingus says it won’t be possible to reverse the decision to close its crew base in Shannon Airport – despite suggestions otherwise.

CEO Lynne Embleton is set tell an Oireachtas committee this morning that last month’s decision is final, leaving up to 126 jobs in doubt, with a review of ground handling requirements at the airport also taking place.

It comes as it’s been revealed both the Taoiseach and Tánaiste have failed to reply to a request to meet with Clare Councillors to discuss concerns arising from the decision.

Correspondence was issued to both Micheal Martin and Leo Varadkar three weeks ago following a special meeting of Clare’s county Councillors and Oireachtas representatives and at yesterday’s full council meeting, it was revealed that no response has been received from either party.

Fine Gael Cllr Joe Cooney, has called for contact to be made once more, this time to all three main party leaders, as a matter of urgency.
