601 Women Waiting For Gynaecology Procedures In Ennis Hospital

601 women are waiting for gynaecology procedures at Ennis General Hospital.

Nearly half of the patients in need of an appointment in the county town have been waiting for at least a year.

Figures released by Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly to the Oireachtas following a parliamentary question from Sinn Fein show 2,746 women are waiting for gynaecological procedures within the UL Hospitals Group’s four facilities of Ennis, Nenagh, St John’s and UHL.

601 of them are in Ennis and 294 of those have been waiting a minimum of 12 months for their appointment.

108 patients have been waiting less than 3 months, 76 between three and six months, 55 between six and nine months, and 68 more than nine months but less than a year.

A further 1,429 women are on waiting lists for procedures at University Hospital Limerick.

The Department of Health says a combination of the pandemic and an attack on its cyber systems earlier this year has ‘impacted waiting times’.

Minister Stephen Donnelly says the Department is continuing work on a Multiannual Waiting List Plan to address waiting lists and bring them in line with Sláintecare targets over the coming years.
