6 percent of planning applications in county Clare were refused in 2021.
This county’s grant-rate was significantly above the national average that year.
The findings are contained in the Office of the Planning Regulator’s Annual Overview of the Planning System 2021 which has recently been published.
Of the 1,157 planning applications submitted to Clare County Council that year, 1,058 were granted permission.
Only a handful of counties across the country have a higher grant rate than Clare.
Of the 68 submissions refused by the local authority here, 4.4% of these were appealed to the An Bord Pleanala.
Nearly half of those were reversed, which was significantly above the national average of 27% for successful appeals to the national planning body.
The OPR states that Clare recorded a total of 164 sites considered either vacant or derelict in 2021.
The report also details funding boosts for Clonlara and Sixmilebridge throughout the year.
Clonlara was one of nine successful applications nationwide under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme to the tune of €454,000, while Sixmilebridge was allocated €100,000 under the Town Centre First initiative.
