40% Of Septic Tanks In Clare Failed Inspection Last Year

40% of domestic septic tanks in Clare failed inspection last year, putting drinking water, wells and rivers at risk.

The latest report from the Environmental Protection Agency shows 97 inspections were completed in this county in 2025, with 80% of those fixed or brought into compliance at the end of the year.

Clare had the sixth-highest failure rate in the country, behind Cork, Limerick City, Donegal, Wexford and Galway.

The state’s environmental watchdog says 316 septic tank systems in Clare have failed inspection since 2013, and EPA Inspector Lorcan Farrell says homeowners must address issues when systems fail.
