Kilkee Pharmacist Defends Government Response To National Medicine Shortage

A West Clare pharmacist has defended the government’s response to the national medicine shortage.

New research shows there’s been an 86% increase in medicine shortages in Ireland over the past 12 months, rising from 178 to 332.

Azure Pharmaceuticals has drafted a white paper containing potential solutions to the issue which include introducing an Irish-specific essential medicines list and implementing a medicines inventory system for enhanced transparency.

Sean Hurst of Hurst Pharmacy in Kilrush insists the supply crisis is too complex to warrant government intervention.
