Cooraclare, Cranny and Newmarket on Fergus are amongst the areas still affected, though over 500 customers have been re-connected in the last 24 hours.

Nationally, the number of people still facing a lack of electricity has fallen to less than 8,000, with Newcastle West, Thurles and Tralee amongst the worst-affected.

The clean up after the storms continues in the Quin area today.

Clare County Council, in conjunction with specialist contractors, will be carrying out works to render safe trees that have fallen or were damaged by last week’s severe storm.

The works will be carried out adjacent to Quin Bridge on the R469 regional road in the village of Quin and are expected to be complete by the end of the week.

Specialist equipment will be used to safely remove fallen or damaged trees that pose a safety risk to the public and will lead to some traffic disruption in the area including lane closures and stop/go traffic control.
