20 children dead from tainted food in India

20 children have died in India after eating free primary school meals.

Officials in Bihar state say another 27 have been hospitalised – with ten of them in a serious condition.

The children range in age from 8 to 11, they fell ill after eating the meals which had been cooked in the school kitchen.

Early tests indicate the food may have had traces of phosphorous.
