New figures from the Central Statistics Office show there were 153 fewer residential dwellings purchased in 2023 than the previous year.

Of the 970 house sales executed, 51 were completed in December which was the least productive month of 2023.

The accumulation of this housing activity in Clare added up to €248 million in total, while the median price for a home in the county is now €235,000.

233 of the property purchases here were by first time buyers, while 174 were by non-occupiers.

In addition, 47, or just 5%, of these executions were for new buildings.

Nationally, the figures indicate that house prices are now higher than they were at the peak of the 2007 Celtic Tiger boom with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown in Dublin being the most expensive place to buy a home at an average of €622,000.
