A meeting of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee was told back in April that speeding offences have almost halved in the first quarter of 2021, though there is a caveat of severe pandemic restrictions in place this time around.

Following a Freedom of Information request from Clare FM, figures from An Garda Siochana reveal 3,945 speeding offences were recorded in the Clare Garda Division in 2020, totalling in fines that amassed €337,000.

Statistics were not available for 2019 or 2018, but offences totalled more than 4,100 euro back in 2017 in Clare.

In 2016, they stood at more than 4,400, with fines that year in this county standing at over €370,000.

In those three years alone speeding fines in Clare have totalled more than one million euro.
