Lohan Relieved As Banner Escape Tough Kildare Test In Newbridge

Clare hurling boss Brian Lohan admits it was a relief to see off a stubborn challenge from Kildare in their National League Division 1B tie.

Eight points from Tony Kelly and seven from Mark Rodgers were key as the Banner registered a 0-27 to 3-14 victory over the Lilywhites in Newbridge.

It means Clare are unbeaten from their opening four games, and will be guaranteed a place in the Division 1B final if they avoid defeat to Carlow in Dr Cullen Park next weekend.

Lohan says the concession of two early goals meant the game was always going to be in the balance coming down the home stretch.

Meanwhile Clare’s camogie side remained unbeaten in the National League as they saw off the challenge of Wexford by 0-16 to 0-7 in Meelick.

Up next for Eugene Foudy’s side is a showdown with Limerick in Cappamore next Saturday afternoon.
