St Flannans 2-20 Our Ladys Templemore 1-19
St Flannan’s produced a ten point second half turnaround to beat Our Lady’s Templemore in the quarter final of the TUS Dr Harty Cup.
Trailing by 1-11 to 0-8 at the break, the Ennis side netted twice inside the opening seven minutes of the second period to level the game; outscoring the Tipperary outfit 2-2 to 0-2 in that period.
St Flannan’s started brightly and led by 0-3 to 0-1 in the opening five minutes, with a high press from the forward line creating turnovers which were converted into scores.
Templemore hit a purple patch of six consecutive score in as many minutes, with their greater efficiency in front of goal a telling factor in the opening period. In fact, it took until the 22nd minute before they hit the ball wide, at which point they were leading by 1-9 to 0-7.
By the half time whistle, St Flannan’s had eight wides and eight points on the board, but trailed by six with no discernible breeze at play.
When the game turned for the final quarter, the sides were level at 2-13 to 1-16 with the result very much in the melting pot.
Six of the next seven scores came to St Flannan’s as the radar finally clicked; with braces for Harry Doherty, Graham Ball and Darragh McNamara seeing them take control of the tie coming down the home stretch.
The free taking of Paudie O’Shea kept Templemore in touch with just three between them in a nervy final few minutes, but Isaac Hassett’s point deep in injury time finally put the result beyond doubt.
Up next is a derby showdown with St Joseph’s Tulla in the last four, with details of that game to be confirmed in the coming days.
