Sharp Rise In Covid Patients At University Hospital Limerick

There has been a sharp rise in the number of patients admitted to hospital with Covid-19 since the weekend.

University Hospital Limerick is treating the highest number of patients with the virus in the country today.

The latest HSE figures show 27 patients were being treated for Covid-19 at University Hospital Limerick this morning, a figure that has been steadily rising since the weekend. On Friday last, there were 9.

It’s the highest figure of any hospital in the country, with 22 covid patients being treated at both Cork Univeristy Hospital and the Mater in Dublin.

There a 6 patients in Intensive Care in Limerick, while an additional 72 patients are being tested for the virus at the Dooradoyle facility.

It comes as the hospital has appealed to people in recent days to consider their care options before attending the facility, as the Emergency Department has remained exceptionally busy.

The INMO’s latest trolleywatch statistics show there were 62 patients left waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 42 of those on trolleys in the ED.

People are advised to contact their GP or GP out of hours service in the first instance, or to attend the Injury Unit at Ennis General Hospital where possible, which is open daily from 8am to 8pm.
