Shannon Airport Passenger Traffic Up 32% In Last Twelve Months

Passenger traffic at Shannon Airport soared by 32% over the last twelve months.

The latest report from the Central Statistics Office, published today, shows that over 600,000 people travelled to and from the Clare base in the third quarter of the year.

There’s more than Christmas spirit in the air at Shannon Airport, after a better than expected post-pandemic recovery.

The CSO’s latest Aviation Statistics report reveals that 611,388 passengers flew to and from the county’s airport in the third quarter of the year, marking a 32% increase in activity in the last twelve months and a 12% boost on pre-pandemic figures.

Between July and September, approximately 91,130 passengers arrived in Shannon on services from London-Heathrow, London- Gatwick and London -Stansted.

When it comes to transatlantic travel, over 16,000 travellers departed Shannon for Boston Logan, 15,314 flew to New York JFK, 14,298 descended on Newark.

Outbound services to Chicago O’Hare, Manchester, Edinburgh and Faro were the destinations of choice for over 89,000 people, with 29% flying to Manchester, 23% to Chicago, 20% to the Scottish capital and 22% to the Portuguese destination.
