Man Escapes Injury Following Ennis Collision

A motorist escaped injury after his car collided with a light pole in Ennis this evening.

The collision, which involved no other vehicle, happened at around 6.20pm at Friar’s Walk off the Station Road.

A car travelling towards the Station Road junction collided with the light pole dislodging some of its fittings and leaving it in a dangerous position.

Emergency services were alerted however two members of Clare Civil Defence, who had been passing the area at the time, stopped to render assistance. The paramedic and EMT (emergency medical technician) remained at the scene with the driver until fire and ambulance crews arrived.

Two units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station along with National Ambulance Service paramedics attended the incident.

Fire crews sealed off the area around the car and pole which was left leaning in a precarious position. Fortunately, there were no pedestrians walking in the immediate area at the time.

The section of road from the Station Road / Friars Walk junction was closed to traffic.

The driver and sole occupant of the car was assessed by ambulance paramedics but he didn’t travel to hospital.

ESB crews also attended the scene.

The road was reopened at 8.30pm after the scene had been declared safe.
